THANK YOU! from New DAWN Africa

Thanks to your generous gifts, New DAWN Africa has accomplished a lot this past year in advancing health care services in Dandora!

Our partnership with Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles kicked off last fall with a visit from two OB/GYN doctors to Visitation/Brother Andre Medical Center (BAMC). Dr. Ewina Fung and Dr. Christy Evans performed the first gynecological surgeries at the Center, assisted by the BAMC staff. Kaiser LA has since created an elective for their OB/GYN residents to experience an international rotation in Dandora, KENYA at BAMC, the first beginning in March 2020.

A grant from DOLLIES MAKING A DIFFERENCE in Pacific Palisades, California paid for set of surgical instruments for the operating theatre. These specialized instruments are necessary to perform certain gynecological surgeries. Thank you to all of these hardworking, big hearted ladies who lovingly handcrafted dollies and teddies for our new babies and the children at the HIV clinic!

We're exceptionally grateful for a generous grant from SHINING CITY FOUNDATION out of Iowa. They financed the purchase of an ELISA blood machine. This device conducts 10 different tests, identifies adverse health conditions, collects data for research, and allows for blood banking and transfusions. Since beginning transfusion services in March, 95 transfusions have been performed, 100% of them successful! The expanded laboratory services we now offer provide a source of revenue to support BAMC.

We encourage our motivated and compassionate staff members to constantly strive for excellence in an effort to provide the best care possible for our patients at BAMC. To support that mission, New DAWN Africa awarded scholarships for professional development to several outstanding staff members: Joy Ndege (Administrative Assistant), Nereah Onyango (Patient Care Attendant), Johnstone Kwada (Laboratory Superintendent), and Finlay (Diabetes and Hypertension specialist).

GOING FORWARD:

We've already outgrown the small space allocated for the neo-natal Special Care Unit (SCU). New DAWN Africa committed to expand the Special Care Unit in response to the growing need. Brother Andre Medical Center has the only Special Care Unit in the area, and has saved countless lives of these tiny and most vulnerable newborns.

Facilities and Services are continually being expanded to meet the demand of the community in Dandora. Much progress has been made, but there is still much more work to be done! Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us DELIVER OPPORTUNITIES FOR WELLNESS!

With gratitude,

Jill Origer Tabit
