New DAWN Africa was created in response to the lack of access to quality healthcare options for pregnant women in Dandora. We believe that pregnancy is not an illness and that wellness should be the foundation upon which pregnant women receive care.
The prenatal program at Brother Andre Hospital serves both normal and high-risk pregnancies. Patients receive counseling, nutrition assistance, clinical screening, and ultrasound imaging for standard prenatal visits. The skilled and caring staff treat all patients with respect and dignity.
Ultrasound imaging is a crucial component of quality prenatal care. It is used not only in diagnosing and dating pregnancies, but in early detection and monitoring of pregnancy complications as well. To meet this need, New DAWN Africa funded a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine. This program has been hugely successful, as 1173 ultrasound examinations were performed in 2020 alone. With support from New DAWN Africa, BAH is able to expand its capacity for ultrasound imaging services to meet the increasing demand of the community.
New DAWN Africa supports women’s healthcare across the continuum of life, from preconception to prenatal care, to labor and delivery, postpartum care, and gynecologic care, preventative services such as cervical cancer screening, as well as surgical care.
